A new Integrated Elective Care Pathway (IECP) has been commissioned by Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group (HMR CCG). This provides a combined service between four partner organisations – BMI Highfield Hospital, GP Care Services Ltd, InHealth (formerly Care UK) and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. These partner organisations now work together to offer an integrated service for Musculoskeletal (bones and joints), Gynaecology, Urology, Gastrointestinal and Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialties.

We have access to resources that will significantly improve the patient experience. The new IECP design was developed by local clinicians, care professionals and managers with this in mind and draws on national and international best practice.

The IECP provides prompt assessment and diagnosis, reducing patient waiting times. It develops a personalised management plan to support the patient in remaining healthy and independent, it works to deliver treatment and advice that addresses immediate, medium and long term needs, enabling the patient to self-manage their condition. The key objectives are to:

- Improve patient experience and outcomes for Musculoskeletal, Gynaecology, Urology, Gastrointestinal and ENT conditions

- Ensure timely access to assessment 

- Ensure care takes place in the most appropriate setting, where possible in the community

- Ensure effective communication between primary care and other services involved

- Promote self-care

The service delivers good health outcomes in a caring and compassionate environment. Patient safety and quality is central ensuring people are treated with respect and dignity and receive a high standard of safe and effective treatment.

Patient experience measures will sit alongside contractual Key Performance Indicators, used to monitor performance of the contract by the CCG.
