Our Comfort Days service offers people living with dementia and those with complex needs a chance to meet other service users in a safe and calm environment.  As part of our service, we offer service users companionship by meeting and chatting with others in the group as well as the opportunity to take part in tailored activities based on each of their personal needs and likes.

Comfort Days also gives carers and families/friends a chance to have a much needed break from caring which gives them time to themselves and a life outside of caring for their loved ones.  At Comfort Days we offer many opportunities such as days out in our minibus for able bodied and those with mobility issues, as well as facilitating engagement with other service users in a home from home environment.  We also offer many other benefits, including:

  • A two-course home cooked meal and refreshments throughout the day to help service users have regulated mealtimes
  • Open 5 days a week, Monday to Friday to create regularity and give carers and families flexibility for time off from caring
  • A modern and cosy place of familiarity and safe environment for service users with disabled access throughout the building
  • Helping to remain active, where possible, to promote mental and physical wellbeing

Our service users and carers play a vital part in our services, they can offer insight of their experiences and contribute to the transformation and improvement of all our healthcare services across Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale.

Our Comfort Day service is based in Rochdale at Moss Bridge House.

Jean’s story.

Hi, my name is Jean, and I am a retired NHS nurse of 50 years.

I really enjoy coming to Comfort Days, I love the company and meeting new friends, it also gets me out of the house and takes away the boredom of being home alone as my Husband passed away recently.   I have two lovely grownup daughters who come and visit and see me a lot. We have just had a family holiday in Fuerteventura together which was wonderful.

I am not one for joining in with any games being played but I do like to take part in the crafts and quizzes that we do.

I am also a huge Manchester City fan and when I went on a tour of the ground, I went for a sit down and ended up sitting next to Pep Guardiola and having a chat with him without realising who he was, he was very pleasant and chatted away to me.

The Comfort Days also helps my family; my two daughters are very busy with work so when I come along to these days, they can get on with their days too.

Margaret’s story.

I have worked all my life ‘with the public’ and I always think I it’s better to always try and have a smiley face as no one is interested in anyone that is miserable.

I love coming to Comfort days and attend three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. I have made lots of nice friends and all the staff are absolutely brilliant, and great in my opinion. Despite me being 82 years old I still like to try every activity they have and so far, I have really enjoyed them all, I also get on with lots of people in the group.  I also look forward to sitting down for a chat with coffee and biscuits even though I am not one for sitting still for long.

Even my social life is busy, attending Comfort Days three days a week and seeing my family the rest of the time so I am never bored or lonely.   I now consider everyone that I have met at Comfort Days to be friends of mine.

In loving memory, Margaret passed away in December 2024 and is missed by all those that knew her.

Brian’s story

Brian has a smile you can’t help smiling along with and now he says he is happier than ever.  Having some physical disability doesn’t stop Brian for getting out of the house and attending our Comfort Days.

I like all the staff, and they are always very helpful and nice to be with. Sometimes we stay here and play games and do activities and other times we go out on a trip.  Last week we went out to a local garden centre, and I bought some daffodil bulbs which I since have planted them out at home, and I can’t wait to see them flowering.

Here at Comfort Days, I have met some really good pals that I like to talk to, and we play the games or do some activities and chat together and it helps pass my time and keeps me happy.  I used to get very lonely on my own at home before I came here, and I used to contact my local healthcare services many times a day for someone to talk to but since coming here I haven’t rung them up once. I look forward to my days here.

I also like the food, here we get a hot lunch which is always nice and tasty, and I can’t wait till it is my lunchtime.
